The leaves have changed and a lot have fallen, the temperatures are dropping, and Christmas is right around the corner.
Students have enjoyed participating in Red Ribbon Week and decorating our door with Sweet Brown (an everyday hero that survived an apartment fire).
The students had an amazing time on the Glade Top Trail hike. It was a great day, and everyone enjoyed being outdoors in the fresh air. The students especially liked being out of the classroom.
The 8th grade students are still learning about the United States Constitution. They should be ready to take that test before Christmas.
Most students are making good progress toward their AR goal so far this quarter. Amber met her goal on the first day of the new quarter. Second quarter has a few less days. Plus, it always seems even shorter still because of Thanksgiving break, then Christmas not long after that. Students can't afford to procrastinate. Is your student reading at home? In order to make progress toward their individual goals, it is imperative that all students read at home. I have seen proven success toward achieving AR goals when students read a longer book at home each evening while reading short books at school each day. Ask your student about their progress toward their AR goal. It is important because AR counts as one-fourth of their Reading grade. We had several students that did not make their first quarter goal, but I have confidence that each of them will make up the needed points to be able to qualify for the big field trip at the end of the school year. Students should be at 50% of their quarterly point goal by November 17th when progress reports come out.
I want to thank all the parents that came to conferences. If you ever need to contact me, you may call the school during my planning time which is from 10:10 to 11:00 each day. You can also email me at [email protected]. Also, be sure to check out our class website: StudyInTheWoods.weebly.com.
