The days keep getting shorter and the weather is getting colder as 2014 winds down. Most students are making good progress toward their AR goal so far this quarter. With only 15 school days in December, students cannot afford to procrastinate. It is important to make sure your student is reading at home at least 30 minutes each evening. Ask your student about their progress toward their AR goal and Friday Updates. It is important because AR counts as one-fourth of their Reading grade. Besides the school and classroom libraries and Scholastic book orders, an excellent resources for books is the Douglas County Library. With a library card and a PIN number (just call the library to get this), you can check out ebooks or audiobooks for FREE on http://www.molib2go.org for about 3 weeks.
Soon, I will be sending home information about our class Christmas party. On the subject of Christmas, please consider choosing toys and games that are fun and educational for your child. Books make great stocking stuffers. In addition, you might ask your student about the status of their school supplies and replenish necessary items during the break. I hope everyone has an enjoyable break and most importantly a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This is what the 7th/8th graders put on their Christmas wish list:
Shantel – turquoise boots, a bow and arrows, and jeans
Jordon – Ariana Grande’s phone number
Wes – candy, mashed potatoes, roast beef, coconut cream pie, and a donut
Kelsey – All I want in this world is a llama.
Steven – tools for fixing a motorcycle and boots
Michaela – a monkey and bananas, a box of chocolates, and a pair of combat boots
Nate – I want a bow for Christmas.
Ricky – LEGO Minecraft “The Mines” and “The Starter”
Courtney – I want a pair of Sperrys.
Caiden - $
Zoe – I want candy.
Amber – I would really appreciate it if I got a phone. J
Makayla – Olaf shirt, anything camo, Spirit Animal books, some arrows, 20 dollars, a camo collar for my dog, Beautiful Creatures (all books), I am Number Four (all books), painting and drawing kit
If you need to contact me, you may call the school during my planning time which is from 10:10 to 11:00 each day. You can also email me at [email protected]. Please check studyinthewoods.weebly.com for information about my class, helpful links, and audiobook information.
