The year is going incredibly well, and I have the most fabulous class. It's hard to believe that the first quarter is almost over though. Just a reminder about Friday Updates - I give students a small slip of paper with their grades at the end of each week. At any time, I can also print an up-to-date detailed grade sheet if a parent requests it.
I am super proud of each and every 8th grade student for passing their Missouri Constitution test…on the first try! Congratulations to Kelsey for scoring 100%! After a little celebration, we will be studying the U.S. Constitution.
In Math, the 7th graders are closing in on the end of Module 1 – Ratios and Proportional Relationships. After some review, we will have an assessment. After each assessment, we take the opportunity to go over every question while looking at the scoring guide to discuss problem solving strategies and understand what a correct answer looks like. Module 2 is all about operations with rational numbers.
The 8th grade math class is in the middle of Module 2 – The Concept of Congruence. In Science, we are currently learning about cells and how to avoid viruses.
First quarter ends on Friday, October 17th. Every student needs to be at 100% on Accelerated Reader by that date. Congratulations to Kelsey, Michaela, Amber, and Teona for having already met their first quarter goals! In Literature class, we are learning about how to show comprehension and understanding of what we read by using evidence from the text.
Be sure to come to the carnival on October 18th to support our king and queen candidates – A.J. Davis, Dylan Rogers, and Ashe Cochran.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be Thursday evening, October 23rd from 4-7 pm. I look forward meeting with each of you that evening. Of course, students are welcome to come with their parents. In the past, parents have not made appointments, and it has worked well. If you are not available to come to conferences that evening, please contact the school to set up another time/date the following week. Your student will receive 10 points extra credit for you coming to see me for Parent Teacher Conferences.
We will be having a Halloween party on Friday, October 31st. I will send home a note about that at conferences.
Looking forward - Our class field trip is tentatively scheduled for Monday, November 24th. We plan to Connxtion Entertainment in Mtn. Grove to watch the 'Mockingjay' movie from the Hunger Games book series and go bowling.
If you need to contact me, feel free to call the school during my planning time which is from 10:10 to 11:00 each day. You can also email me at [email protected]. Check out our class website for information about my class and helpful links –

I have decided to try Class Messenger (available in Google Play and Apple App Store). This is a free, easy, and secure communication for messages, homework and test reminders, sharing photos, and keeping track of classes. At this time, I am opening this to parents only. The addition of students may come at a later time. Use the following class code to participate:
7th grade - FJTJN9
8th grade - MUUUQ9
